I really don’t want to jinx myself so I never say this out loud (and hopefully I won’t regret it) but I have 2 digitakts, one I’ve had for a long time. I think the production run is 2017 and my buttons are not sticky.

This is NOT TO DISCOUNT THE FACT that soft polymers do suffer from the sticky coating issue. It’s literally science.

The soft touch coating is the result of loose polymer chains and because they use these plasticizers which create loose polymer chains, the coating has a greater elasticity which makes for a softer surface, but over time the plasticizers which make the polymer chains weak and thus resulting in that soft texture start to break down and seep to the surface creating the gooey stuff you see on elektron buttons and knobs.

I have had several soft touch coated items sit in a drawer, unused, out out of light, out of heat, away from dirt, and still get sticky. It’s probably just a coincidence that my digitakt with no decksaver hasn’t encountered this issue yet. Actually, none of my elektron products have, and I will pray that tomorrow is not the day I regret talking about this.

Mine arrived. Not even close to fitting. Too low and 1cm too small. Well, it was only 80cents. Maybe I will use it to store screws or something.

I just use a few black cloth napkins from Walmart. When they get too dusty, which is rare, I take them outside, shake them off, and run them through the wash. Easy and very cheap.

I’ve never understood the expensive plastic lid thing either. To each their own though.

I never claimed it was perfect, I said above that it touches the knobs at the back.

Make the mods to the lid as shown and try it. You’ll see it covers all the buttons and knobs well enough.

Cloths don’t protect from liquids or falling objects.

Good points. I guess my studio has always been a pretty calm benign place. I could see these things being useful for people with crazy pets, little kids, and drunk roommates.
