Hey all, I am just looking for a spot of adv ice. I am looking to get a 2nd hand.macbook pro (or whatever, just something decent for audio and only audio… That is all the machine will.be turned on for.) I am not planning on using any soft synths or anything, but I obviously wanna run overbridge when it comes out so I would like a machine that can use 64 bit programs. Would also like it to have thunderbolt as I would want my next audio interface.to.be thunderbolt capable. Is this machine possible below 500 eur? Also would anyone know what kind of machine I would be looking for, advice on model, and where to buy from? Cheers
Yes.
Cheers
It might help to include where you’re located so people can recommend something reasonably local.
Apple also offers refurbished Macs in a lot of countries. You’ll probably pay a little more than €500 this way, but you do get full warranty.
A Mac Mini can also be a good deal, esp. if you don’t need anything portable. What’s nice about the latest model of the Mac Mini is that it has the PSU built in.
I have had bad luck selling my laptops in the past… I sold them to friends and the dies with in months. on real reason they said just had replace logic boards.
I think if you are not running much a new older air is fine.
I have a 2011 MBP i7 I want to sell. Are you interested? Thing works great. I’m using it right now.
hi t, thanks for the advice. I am based in Ireland, but i wouldnt mind buying it from a forum/ online, i was thinking about a mac mini it seems to be a contender alright, but i would essentially love for my next machine to be portable.
i have checked the refurbs from the mac sight and of the little stock they had, the ones were just out of my budget. i have just bought the Rytm so funds will be tight.
thats why i was curios to see if there are macs running 64 bit with thunderbolt running in at around 500.
cheers
Conor
cool, would you recomend a mackbook air? and from what year would you say would be a good starting point - like would a 2011 air be running 64bit? what kinda prices would they go for?
cheers
Conor
yeah i would be interested in finding out the price - i will ping you a private message
where are you located? helps to give you costs…
but for example small get the job you need done.
Anything with a Core 2 Duo and up can run 64 bit code: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3696
The difference in new vs used price is very close for MBP, meaning that you cannot get a bargain unless its like a 5 year old machine …and hence pointless.
if money is tight and you MUST have a mac, then get the mac mini…its the only reasonably priced thing they have
