27 Teens - Dark Techno Mood Piece NYE (Vidjam)

First track I have pulled out in ages… in the name of New Years resolutions, sharing this Dark Techno mood piece performed live via black hardware only… Elektron Octatrack, Machninedrum, Rytm, AnalogFour, Monomachine, Roland JU-06 and Korg Monologue. Processed via small mastering rack consisting of Overstayer VCA & FET Compressors, TC Finalizer and Niio Analog Track Thickener.

Advance warning about the lack of video in the last minute or two… SD card space woes.

Thanks for listening.

Hi sounds great Dark and Funky…… can you share some info? who is sequencing? and the clock came from? i guess Octa… Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback & interest in detail.
This one is a bit of randomness over all the machines. Have had this track loaded up for the last month with quite a few sessions on, so its been a slow process moulding the layers, though fyi quite a few didn’t even get used. Thinking there is 2 separate tracks in this collage.

All machines just use one pattern, though lots of trig conditions on the ones that have it. You guess right… OT as master clock, as well as sequencing the Ju06, which spits the audio into the A4. Monomachine sequencing and processing the Monologue. All other machines (elektrons) using internal patterns midi clocked to the OT.

There is is actually 3 baselines in this track, and two kick drums… baselines… from OT single cycle waveform, Ju6 as no.2 (great machine for sub bass btw), and lastly the lower tom synth from the AR used at the start. Kicks… OT and AR, used at different points. Monologue was actually the 4th baseline, though more mids in it, but this one, just used for a short while at the end. Ended up using the MM filter & Lfo’s, instead of the monologues own ones. Seems to give more character which was surprising.

The MD does some percussions as well as a few atmosphere sounds. Usually mess with resampling both the MD itself and the OT which comes in via the OT cue outs… but didn’t go there in this take.

Monomachine also has some pad fx (my favourite thing on it) as well as a percussion channel and a growl rhythmic thing that plays with a machinedum related sound.

Rytm does a kick, bass, tribal stuff and some more high hat stuff.

A4 does a couple of riffs and some psychedelic background stuff.

Then it all runs into a Mackie mixer, but first the Machinedrum goes to the Analog Track thickener, using the most subtle saturation algo, & I actually mess with its envelope follower for some stutter fairly early in the piece. Monomachine goes via an overstayer FET, which even on subtle settings just give it awesome presence. After the mixer, it all goes into an Overstayer VCA compressor with about 45-50% mix and a little boost on low end and high end with its eq, then into the finaliser for a ‘little’ more multi band compression, digital radiance generator (tape saturation), normalisation, then to the motu828v2 and a bus out into the recorder. Taking away the post processing makes a big difference, so I end up writing tracks into it active most of the time.

Hope that gives some insight.
