26 000 Dollar Synthesizer

26k $ synth … not a joke

This is just as much and much more crazy

Pppft, nothing the Monomachine couldn’t do. What I will never understand is why these middle-aged synth nerds will always play these incredibly dull patches sounding like a clarinet or a trombone or whatever, as if that is the holy grail of synthesis still (I thought we learned from the 80’s up until now that synths are better for making new sounds rather than cheap immitations of acoustic instruments). Touches into something a bit interesting in the end there - but if they’re going to sell this thing for 20 grand, surely they need to have a better sound demo of it?

But then again, the only people able to afford one will probably be the old farts who wants to recreate the clarinets and the trombones. :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s a CMI Fairlight on eBay right now for £7500, so they’re not quite as expensive these days, but still quite expensive, yes.

Completely agree! There’s a new fairlight CMI, don’t know how much it is though.
Here’s a better demo of the Schmit from Messe, with one of the preset patchers:

thanks for that cool video of the fairlight!
and hey, without those guys (and a whole bunch of other guys…and gals) we would never be able to…i mean…the octatrack just wouldn’t exist, would it?

and i might come up with six enigmatic reasons why a fairlight might still be of good use these days before even getting out of bed, but…

with all the money you saved with your rad knob mod you might as well have a look at a full buchla system:

:joy:

This is a bargain at only $15000 http://www.moogmusic.com/news/decade-thank-yous

Theses are also pretty baller:

A4
Knifonium
State Zero

:+1: :+1: :+1:
Though I would certainly like a Schmitt

NED Synclavier cost way way more when new back int eh day… in today’s dollars it’d be ridiculous… they’re amazing though.

GX1 anybody?!

I find it amusing that Al J. et al. used a Fairlight on the first Revolting Cocks album, but couldn’t figure out how to program more than one thing at a time and made the record this way, recording bits and then programming a new sound each time.

Can’t imagine anyone paying serious coin for one now, except for Coil collectors that want the one they used with the Kate Bush samples. I’m sure that would get as much as the original cost, if not more.

This looked cool… until I saw the price:

Hornet

Not in the same league as some of the other synths mentioned though!

**The demo forgot to mention the free delivery via a flatbed truck

Just two cents on Buchla. Only thing I would buy from them is the Music Easel.

€5,000 for a Clone of a EMS synthi anyone? http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2014/03/29/the-hornet-portable-modular-synthesizer-ems-synthi-vcs-3-clone/#more-56020

:-/

The amazing thing to me is the fact that we live in a time where synthesizers and electronic music have become so huge, that it’s even feasible for all of these companies to exist, let alone make these massive Holy Grail synths.

I used to love TRC (anything Wax Trax really)!
I may even have my old tape cassettes in my archives…
