Look, I get it it’s your job on this board to run interference for Elektron. I remember you from the initial Overbridge dumpster-fire back in the dark-ages.
But you’re 100% wrong.
- The Yamaha TX-7 could/can load DX-7 SysEx
Diff synth, same mfg.
- The Korg Volca FM can load DX7 sysex
Diff Synth, Diff Mfg.
Etc. There’s plenty of examples of devices that can read other devices sysex.
So your contention that there’s some immutable law of the universe that kept Elektron from allowing the DN1 presets in sysex format to be loaded on the DN2 is a false one.
It’s possible, it’s been done.
There’s zero probability that someone at Elektron didn’t say in a staff meeting, “Hey, all those old DN1 presets will work with the carry-over machine/engine, we need a way to get them loaded”
You launched a new version of Transfer around the same time as the launch.
You make claims that DN1 presets will work with DN2. You just can’t actually you know, get them shoved into the machine.
- So Elektron knew the need
- knew the issue
- Had at least two solutions (alter DN2 OS to read DN1 or have some minor translation in Transfer)
- Chose not to do anything
That’s basically the definition of “Nerfed”
It’s not the end of the world, the DN2 is an amazing box I’m glad I bought and I’d recommend it. It’s obvious that over the last decade since I became an Elektron customer they’ve learned a thing or two. But to have an official rep on an official customer service board continue to gaslight their customers seems wrong.
Elektron should REALLY do a better job of calling out a known limitation like this until it’s fixed.
From my POV, I knew that it came with a pretty small collection of presets, and most of them on the “weird” side to show off all the new capabilities. Makes sense.
However, because it was claimed that DN1 presets can be loaded on DN2, I figured I’d pick up a few to have more bread-n-butter sounds. I sure I’m not the only one, and I’m sure Elektron Customer Service is fielding a lot of traffic from people that are buying OFFICIAL soundpacks that are delivered in .sysx that they can’t use.
Yes, there is a small percentage out there in the .dn* format thankfully (Thanks Dave!)
So in summary, the appropriate response from a customer service best-practice:
“We screwed up, we’re sorry, and we’re working hard to offer a solution ASAP.”
