16 bit recording

So I just bought a Zoom H1 for recording live tracks onto.

Looking around it appears that most (all?) of you seem to record in 24bit.

Am I missing something?

For the sake of simple recordings, without any treatment (other than chopping of bits of silence at the beginning and end), should I have bought the H2N instead?

Curiously,

Dave

Sweet lord, ignore that post.

I just spent over an hour trawling around looking at 16 bit vs 24 bit and then discovered that the H1 has 24bit recording.

That’s that then.

(HELLLOOOOOO)

There’s nothing inherently wrong with 16 bit recording, by the way. 24 bit is just more convenient because you have more headroom which means you don’t have to be as careful with setting your levels.

Cheers folks, good to know

Audio particulars can be a bit of a minefield for the uninstructed worldling.

Simple pointers like this are helpful.
