Best to address your concerns directly with them imo.

You need to raise this on their Discord server as they seem to respond quickly there

At this point of the firmware, Bento has become a solid product.

So would you say it’s functioning as intended now?

Most of the feedback I’ve read up to v1.5 suggested it was still a bit of a mess. Has 1.6 sorted it all out now?

Considering buying one to replace the MPC Sample I just sold, and don’t want to buy a machine that’s fundamentally flawed.

I like the mobile sampler approach and found the MPC frustratingly limited.

Which specific points are you looking out for?

I’ve been following the 1010 Discord for a few months and there have been many users complaining in general, but things that caught my attention were:

  • Wavetable synth bug
  • Battery management / charge longevity issues
  • One shot mutes (think this has now been provided)
  • Low audio output issues + audio artifact/crackling issues
  • High CPU usage
  • Crashing/glitching for artists in live use scenarios

My query is whether or not Bento executes its basic factory spec functionality in a reliable manner, or do 1010 behave like many other manufacturers that keep adding new features without dealing with base build bugs?

Thanks for your help.

Mutes are now available for both one-shots and loops.

ā€œBase buildā€ bugs are being dealt with. For example, to give you an idea about wavetable issues: I’ve tried to reproduce some of those reported bugs (newest and oldest) on 1.6, to no avail. That is not to say that Bento would be fully bug-free.

Regarding the other issues, any specifics?

Thanks for your response - I get the impression you are affiliated with 1010, somehow.

The other bugs are things that have been mentioned on Discord, so I don’t know more than I have read.

I’ve ordered a Bento so will test it for myself.

Have a good day

Let us know how it goes! I find it surprisingly hard to this day to find out whether the Bento works or not, so your report will be appreciated.

A bit extreme as a strategy in my opinion but probably the best way to find out for yourself. Good luck!

As for the battery charge level, a recent post confirmed that disconnecting the charging cable could lead to a charge level drop <10% and that this would be expected behaviour.

In my experience, Bento is rather slow to charge and requires a high-power wall charger (I use a MBP charger) and a usb-c cable able to carry the power (in the box). Charging is faster when Bento is switched off.

A note on audio levels. I have also read about low audio level but nevertheless a word of caution. When you first switch on the Bento, keep your ears away from your headphones or any speakers and turn down the output levels on the device first. Bento can be really loud. Also stay away from that boot loader menu for anything else than firmware upgrades - one submenu there features an absolutely deafening test sound, best to never go there.

Thank you! That’s really helpful

Will give it a whirl.

Based on my experience of owning many musical hardware machines, it’s always best to try things out directly. I’ve been drawn to Bento for a while but the forum reported bugs put me off until now.

I liked the MPC sample for its simplicity and form factor, but found its functionality to be slightly backward, quite buggy and a little too limiting - I’m sure future updates would improve on this but the whole thing was a bit too toy-like for me.

I considered looking at the MPC Live 3, however, this is far too much for my needs as a mobile sample machine - I had an MPC One some years back and never felt drawn to it due to the OS - sold it after a year.

The Bento seems to be the middle ground, based on my observations.

I think that’s pretty accurate, and was also the reason why I found it appealing. I’d be happy if they ironed out the bugs and thus offered something for someone who’s looking for a portable groovebox that can do quite a lot but isn’t too overwhelming and more affordable than an OP-XY.
