Have they said that this will change? Being able to play loops chromatically seems like a nice feature if it could be changed.

You can, you just have to use the multi machine for that. If you just load one sample in there, you can play that chromatically and it will time stretch.

I doubt theyā€˜d change that stuff at all or anytime soon. Their vision seems to be that each machine defines what the pads do, and only the multi and granular engine are set up to be a keyboard on the pads. It’s not like Digitakt, where you have all these options for the trigs.

@KnockKnock: Have you tried holding a note on multi or granular for longer? When I did that, it always stopped playing at some point before I removed my finger. I think I always had the sequencer running when this happened. Can you confirm whether there’s some kind of limit for how long a note can be held on the pads when playing chromatically?

Could you resample a single cycle looping and then use that in a multi?

I know the pain lol

You guys should be happy you don’t have Dalmatians. But let’s not talk about it anymore :zebra:

Well, you could always record a longer sample where the oscillator note is held without any envelopes etc. The multi doesn’t have looping. Meaning a note can only be held as long as the sample is.

Ah, so with using the looper it’s only external sources? Can’t send playing of multisamples or grains to the looper? Would be great to get out of the quantised grid in that sense to make everything feel a bit more humanised

No, you can record any input, output etc. into the looper, so resampling is no issue. There’s just no dedicated multi sample mode. And multi samples is based on very many samples of one note. So youā€˜d have to sample every keyboard note into the looper and then later load that into multi.

Yes. I’ve encountered that. I just downloaded an fw update, but haven’t been able to tinker yet. So, not sure if it’s been addressed in that.

is the resampling into the looper bars/beats configureable or do you have to stop it manually?

It’s too bad they didn’t include a basic synth engine.

Do you have a Bento? You seem like the reference for everyone.

The granular engine does have some basic waveforms built in you can use I believe.

I don’t know what you mean exactly. You can trigger sampling by threshold or start/stop. You can also set how long the recording should be in advance, with settings like bars and bar resolution.

@shigginpit: There’s the granular synth engine which runs on two samples and a basic waveform. It even has PWM on the square. You also have two envelopes on the granular engine that can be routed flexibly via modulation screen. All of the other machines only have one (amp) envelope. It’s not a great synth engine by all means, but I think you can get something decent out of just the basic oscillator, and you could resample it. But I agree, Iā€˜d love something like DVCO or SY Raw as VS synth. Having the multi machine is great though, but it lacks stuff like filter envelope and portamento that makes DT II better for synthing.

@Tchu: Yes, I have a Bento since Friday and am happy to provide info, since there’s not that much out there and lots of potential false promises and misunderstandings. Writing this down also helps me wrap my brain around how to use it.

that’s what I was talkin about… that’s great

Are you familiar with the iPadOS app Drambo at all? If so do you use FlexiSampler in the app?

I’m really looking for an easier to use SP 404MK2 to have in a hardware format that mirrors Drambo in a way.

Right now I love using the OPxy for my sample and melodic based workflow, but I really wish I had Per Pad ADSR , filter, Delay, effects in the DrumKit.

I love the looper on the SP404mk2, but I hate the overall workflow of creating Clips/Patterns on the device.

I love the DT2, but I hate that we can’t adjust Start/End times in the Grid Slicer device.

I love everything about Drambo, and want it in Hardware format…yes I know there is the OT…but the cognitive overload for me is too much…I forget how to use it if I don’t touch it for a few months :stuck_out_tongue:

I am looking at something like Bento to replace my MPC (form factor and portability) and having a focused 8 Track Sampler to mirror how I work with Samples on the MPC and Drambo, seems intriguing.

I hope this rambling make sense :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m hoping to swing by Perfect Circuit tomorrow to give it a test drive.

very well put…

I really want Drambo meets Loopy Pro in hardware.

Capturing loops in Drambo is easy, but it’s so much more slick in LoopyPro

Bento just seems like it might be an answer for this desire of mine…or I hope it gets there…but I’m curious where it stands in the 1.0 firmware if I were looking at Drambo and LoopyPro as a bench mark for a hardware device.

i’m very interested, i just can’t justify it yet until the firmware reaches the point where the form factor is not my favorite thing about it, but it looks to have alot of potential
