1010music Bento

I thought they meant in relation to the mpc one, otherwise not comparing it to anything else just on it’s own I could see it being priced higher than the polyend play when it first came out for sure

Thanks, that’s neat. You’re making me wanna buy one even more now, and considering it’s cheaper than the bento…

Gosh, even the MPC platform isn’t perfect and it’s been around way before some hit makers were even born. Unlike the DT2 which is iterative of the DT1 (and still have bugs), but generally the platform is stable and we know what we are buying. I think it’s saying a lot when Loopop had to caveat so many times it’s a beta firmware, but it seems to be released to the viewing public to meet Superbooth deadline. Too many unknown but quite a tall claim to say it’s a DAW in a box. I want to see an Arramger if that’s the case.

All the same, I hope it will come. I do like the format and the portability. But not yet enough for me to buy as a beta tester.

I can’t speak to the Bento, I was just addressing your question about the Blackbox firmware complaints. In my opinion 1010 have a great track record in terms of support and firmware development, whether that’s extended to this new box who knows.

My experience of blackbox is that there are mystifying limitations (eg master eq only) that don’t see progress.

I think it’s true what people say: buy the box for what it can do now. I’m tempted by Bento but there’s tons of basic seeming things missing. I’d buy it if that stuff was fixed.

The m8 btw is another kettle of fish: brilliant as it is and constantly being extended. The new features might not be my personal priorities but they are extraordinary for pace and breadth.

Let me master my blacbox like Stimming does and then Í’ll consider Bento. See you in like 5 years. The form does not speak to me at all.

I am in camp “enjoy and do more with what you already have. “

I got one to use with my DTII. Excited to use it for live stem performances solo, or just getting out ideas when travelling/mobile.

It’s also beginning to look like not having manual slicing is a feature of the Digitakt. They have a specific workflow in mind - 8 bar loop processing with fixed number slicing. It’s fun, but it is a limitation for me and my workflow. Combining these two will be amazing: form factor, battery, multi in/out, audio routing etc etc

Once you get comfortable with it I’ll be interested to hear your take on that.

Yeah I’ll be vocal that’s for sure lol. $1500 after taxes here in Canada, so if it’s not working I’ll be quick to pass judgment

This video really made me want to get it just to support them. https://youtu.be/60L5V7g6Hcw?si=YtQtmfIwh54wGUkD

I was hoping Cuckoo had his skateboard with him ( i am sure he’s been on a board ) and he could have had a go on the track.

Very mellow interview. A little engineering design choice discussion at the end there. Must say i also prefer a bare metal sort of approach – you sometimes need to be able to press the limits.

Nice product, at an interesting point in the development cycle.

Looks interesting to me, I didnt gel with a MPC, so am intrigued by this box. I wonder how the export to a DAW will work.

I think there’s a loopop video of the MPC One where he shows the automatic multisampling process, it seems pretty simple, I haven’t done it myself yet though.

Goodbye MPC and Force,He’llo Bento……wish they’d called it’ something else tho………

I don’t see any support for synthesis, in the same way that the DT2 supports SCWFs.

Doesn’t seem to be possible in the one-shot engine. Though I suppose it might be possible in the granular engine, either by choosing short grains that don’t move, or mixing the oscillator component of granular on its own.

Interesting to see what we find is possible, when it gets out there.

I’ve watched a couple of videos and it’s very impressive for sure especially compared to the sampling features of the DT2 (but let’s not go there).

Do I need another portable sampling groovebox thingy? Almost certainly no.

But granular, slicing, polyphony, streaming & multi-samples would give me everything the DT2 is lacking in a nice package

Exactly! I really feel of late a lot of devices are released prematurely, and we end up co-funding the development. If we are hoping for it to do what it is supposed to do, with firmware updates, that’s like asking me to be a man of faith and devotion. Neither of which I have in abundance. I do like the idea behind Bento, but I will wait it out until I see what it can really do. I bought the KOii only when the 2.0 Champion firmware came out, and I am so happy with it. A very good lesson to wait, and not get suckered into shiny new devices when it’s still a beta product.

Just gotta cure the Fomo and all will be good.

I struggle with this at times cause I’m a sucker for samplers. I hope this one pans out cause it just might be a nice Christmas present for the lot of us once it matures.

One thing I noticed in the Cuckoo video, the guy from 1010 said that customers should be receiving units in a matter of weeks.

Then later in the video, he referenced that things like the midi and audio tracks and scenes, will be built out “in the coming months”.

Don’t know if he maybe just misspoke but I was thinking, wow are they literally going to be shipping these out to customers with totally unfinished firmware and features??
