I usually play live ambient and techno jams with my volcas. A friend invited me to play an hour-long set at their psytrance party. At first I considered doing it all live, but it’s hard enough for me to get a convincing psytrance groove on a pair of volcas, let alone do a whole performance. There’s just too much going on…
So I settled for a hybrid DJ + live performance. Here I’m using the volcas as a 3rd deck. I opted to beatmatch manually, which lets me do interesting tempo changes. The whole thing was a blast! This is a home recording of the same set.
The first two tracks are mine, produced on the Octatrack. I hope to learn that machine well enough to use on stage more, but it’s still too intimidating…
