when i import from the CF card into flex OR stream from static i have no problem managing samples. but when i try to sample using trig triggered sampling i some how lose the sample. as near as i can tell i’m writing it over again.
after i’m done i go back and remove my one time (yellow colored trig) from the record-setup view.
i’m obviously not doing something right, though as near as i can tell i’m following the instructions to the letter from the video below.
make sure all settings are correct in recording setup,
including input (in my case only C D)
rlen - 64 (i want 64 sequencer steps
trig - one
loop - on
in that mode i also hit record to initiate grid recording mode, and function + trig to get a one shot yellow button. this is a single pass trig.
exit recording 1 setup menu and hit play on the AR (which is the master), this triggers the sequence i want (coming from ableton - but it is interchangeable to the video) and voila! i can get sample love. i hear it, i can see it.
though at some point it disappears and is lost forever to the nether regions of the world.
(steam leaves my ears at this point)

i’m assuming i’m missing a super crucial step and someone else has struggled this same way before me.
any help?
back to the manual and merlins guide. …i hope it’s worth it.
What I tend to do, especially on the Octatrack, is to create the simplest setup possible and check along the way to make sure things are still correct.
So, I’d pull any MIDI cables from the OT, mute any unused tracks, set up your triggered sampling like you did, watch it sample, then press stop. Delete the on-shot recording trigger, double-click the track button where the sampling took place, do function+bank (edit) to see the sample, press function+yes to play the sample, and if everything is still good there, then go back and start re-adding the pieces you took away (unmute tracks, plug MIDI back in, etc).
post emotional response_
and after making my way around it.
can i mute channels on the octatrack to stop accidental control? with the rytm i like having access to the performance & pattern control within single hand use.
