Makes me want to buy a Waldorf synth, great write-up.
Would the Brian Eno patches, work on the digitone? Anyone know?
The Digitone does not read DX patches. You would have to reverse engineer the DX patch.

Does it matter if the DX7 has 6 Operators and the Digitone has 4?
It depends on what the operators are doing and how close the emulation is required.

For me, the switch wasn’t about sound quality. I was using a CZ5000 and a Volca FM. The Volca sounded insane.
I honestly can’t compare the basic sounds, but the interface and available (practical) parameters are far better on the Digitone.
Even the Dexed VST is a pain compared to the Digitone.
That said. Need hardware FM on a budget? Volca FM. Want something with a smoother workflow w/ a unique approach to FM? Digitone.
