Roland TB-303 vs TT-303 vs TB-3 vs TB-03

No one can contest the TB 303 !

The video compares the basic sound of the synths with controls set in similar positions, the sound of a common sequence on each of the devices and the sound of each synth in a mix.

Nice review of different clones available actually.

for completeness it would have also been nice to see an Abstrakt Instruments Avalon in there.

Avalon is more than just a 303 for me, it looks more to a Devilfish than a 303 but it’s a great replica too ! you pay the price for it.

Btw it’s incredible to see how the TB 303 makes the difference with some effects added !!!

I have been using the ABL3 VSTi, sounds pretty good to me but I’m no purist:

Used it on this track here:

This is the best software you can find I guess but I’m not a purist too.

If you want to compare some sounds take a look on these websites :

Nice test but the XOXBOX is missing

They call it Adafruit x0xb0x (from the website)

And it’s definitely one of the best replica too, I found a other project from a Nordish man call RE-303 and it’s still on project but sounds really like the original and looks like the original !

I own a XOXBOX for a few years now and after owning a TB303 this box is the best substitute for me.
It comes with the original transistors as the TB.
Not shure, but these parts are rare nowadays.

For sure it’s really hard now to find a xoxox with real components from the original one.

But it’s still the best substitute to a TB 303 for the price and the sound.

But I’m waiting for the commercialisation of the RE 303 for his original design and sound too hehe

im still wating for someone to release music with the 303 sound

I follow the project with Instagram haha

Paul aka dinsync is a nice guy and he is very passionate about the re303

But there’re not talking about commercialisation right ? Last time I’ve checked it was only a DIY project and I read that it would be too expensive to make pre-built kit.

He said it will commercialize pre-built kit for blackboard but in limited selling.

You can find a waiting list on the forum.

Maybe I missed something but this is the waiting list for the PCB, and you have to source the components yourself. As far as I know it’s a difficult diy, way more complicated than the x0x.
Anyway, I’ll be really happy if one day they “commercialize” a built version around 500/600€.

+1

but the new Roland TB-03 might also get a place on the shelf

Obviously, between the four in the comparison video, the TB-3 was farthest away from the original. The resonance and accent/slide behavior were completely different, and it just sounded very softsynthy to my ears. The other two sounded pretty good to me, especially the TB-03 (though they all had their strengths and weaknesses).

Any time I see a comparison video like this, I can’t help but wonder what it might look like if they had compared 4 303s to each other. Surely they wouldn’t be identical, unless both had been recently serviced and calibrated and I wonder if the differential between two 303s is much greater than that of a TB-303 vs TT303.

I’m totally agree !

I was really surprised to see that the TB 03 sounded not so bad compared to the original, the TT 303 sound not really as the original but it has its own unique sound too and you can make some really good bassline with effects.

Mine is on it’s way from Thomann.
Here in Holland it still takes about 4 weeks to arrive.

I like this TB03, saw a few demos on YouTube.
