Monomachine Love Thread

Ok, I put my words in this thread cause I’m a MnM lover.
Since few months, my favorites tricks are those :

1/ I empower the sound of the unit by using it as a two timbre machine. Very often I do this :

• part 1 a sound generator routed CD to part 2 Chorus and part 3 reverb.
• part 4 a sound generator routed EF to part 5 Chorus and 6 Reverb or Dynamics and reverb.

Nothing very original, lot a people here practice this. Very lovely sounds with that and a numerous quantity of ways to module and sculpt the sound.

2/ I use my Pyramid to empower the Elektron silver sequencer and bring to it new abilities. So the combinaison of the two sequencers gives the MnM a real unique power and geatly reinforce the live capacities. I can have a mix between the loop and the continuous (over 4 bars limit) part.
Zillion brings also great way of creating parallel melodies (I mean melodies wich are nearly identical but never the same).

A great machine, I really love the FM flavors.

I’ve said it many times before on this forum, but I keep keytracking on 90% of the time, at least HP filter tracking, with the BASE set at around 8 or 16 (or sometimes as low as 4), and HPQ set to a point where it begins to fatten up the low end a bit. It results in a really nice warm sound that I’m surprised isn’t discussed here very often. Even if I’m turning off the LP tracking (e.g. for FM) I’ll keep the HP on with the aforementioned settings just to give the sounds a bit more bass. Sounds really great when you start running it a little hot through an effects machine like the chorus, good stuff!

Dumb tricks I learned over the past few days:

• Lots of power in the Digipro DDRW machine when applying LFOs to wave selection, etc.
• Also fun when having a long envelope on a Digipro DENS with a single trig in the pattern to use an LFO to select its wave. I have a pattern with the FM machines running a bit wild and a single DENS note hitting with this trick to provide a different long tonal chord every time through.

I’ve been having fun with the MDUW making some really crunchy beats with the E12 machines and using resampling to run half the bar in reverse (and using a slight bit of LFO to nudge its pitch and start point each time) and have made some pattern chains on the two machines that I can just let loop and it fills my little cave with magic.

I have named my Monomachine “Sylvia”.

I was asked about the details of sine-width modulation in another thread. The basic idea is you cut up a sine wave into two pieces. I like using SID machine Sync mod set to previous channel quite a lot. Say bass on 1 and a pwm pad on 2, bring in pad before bass, then when the bass comes in the pad will shift tonally and compliment it in a different way.

In essence stack up 2 machines together in sync creates a whole new world of machines.

just simply setting up one track to trig the other in sync - never really bothered with that.
and using say, track one to trig track two, and then track two to trig track one. Then two different arps from track 1 and 2, trigging each other. Then just for kicks i starting trigging track one from the midi machine with another arp on random.

normally just record tracks by themselves or just make one rack copy and paste into the next track and change the machine.

@Orwell is talking about the TRIG POSition setting in the TRIG TRACK menu. See page 40 of the manual. Prepare for your mind to be (further) blown by the MM’s capabilities.

Trigger settings and feedback

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew what the defined behavior is for setting a track to trigger another's arp and setting that track to trigger the first... putting them in feedback with each others. for example: set track one's arp to add and set it to trigger track 2, set track two's arp to add (maybe with different active steps) then set it to trigger track one. I spent some time working with this set up but i couldn't see the effects of the feedback. does the mono cut off any notes …

When muting the support track of a linked track, the latter plays its own notes.
Otherwise, support track notes have priority.
So you can have a lot of variations with such trick.

Yes, with pleasure, as soon as I finish something listenable, if it happens some day !

The thing I wanted to say was that using the Pyramid with Monomachine offers lot of configurations, because it’s a combination of a simple sequencer with lot of goodies (trigless trigs, LFO and triglocks, tric track, multitrig) handle by an external powerfull sequencer. So you have 3 levels of sequences : arp, 6 tracks sequencer and over all Pyramid.
So if you consider all MnM abilities you can imagine all possible combinations : that give you a powerfull synth. MnM sequence abilities are empowered by fx and polyrythm/polymeters and scales of the Pyramid.

100% agree with this. Different sounds require different settings. If you keep filter tracking off all the time you are missing a lot of what the mono has to offer!
