Elektron Pedalboard concept

I was wondering if anyone has built a elektron setup in a pedalboard case?
If so could you share some of your pictures or ideas?

The idea is having someting compact and well planned for my OT, A4 and a few pedals. This will contain all the power cords and routing cables neatly organised.

Will post a design shortly.

Thanks!

This is a CNB PDC-410G
It’s dirt cheap and probably cheaply built as well. :zonked:

Will fit two Elektrons and some pedals if you build a 2 inch riser letting the elketron i/o pass under the pedals.

Case height is 5 1/2 inches.

I’ve had all three of my elektron machines in an “instrument board” setup for a little while now and highly recommend it! All machines are wired to a built in patch bay which makes it supper easy to connect everything up.

Hey Bc3 great sounding track BTW!

I was thinking of hardwiring all to a patchbay myself.
Something pedalsized with 1/8 trs stereo jacks. (purist harakiri  )
Pedals of interest are TC hall of fame, strymon DECO…

it would be a small 4x4 stereo patch

Ins
-OT IN
-A4 IN
-Pedal chain 1
-Pedal chain 2

Outs
-OT out (can be repached to cue out directly on OT)
-A4 out
-Pedal chain 1
-Pedal chain 2

Thomann pedal case Large.

Not that expensive and it feels quite sturdy.
I take it out almost every week for more than a year and still holding.

Thanks Ben!

Here is a view of what I am set out to do.
The riser does not go all the width to allow easy acces to OT i/os and the A4’s USB and midi thru port.

The Elektron power supply’s will be hidden under the riser.

Any thoughts on velcro for holding things?

I am using this pedal board

i tore out the foam from the lid and put in velcro to use both sides for synth boxes and have a smaller footprint for transport. it worked great. each side can hold two elektrons.

velcro works just fine. the only problem is that you have rubber feet on some synths that you might want to keep on. for that purpose i found some double sided velcro strips in the hardware store. they have hooks on one side and loops on the other and a thick rubber layer in between. they bridge the distance that the rubber feet make.

Works pretty well, I had a custom high density foam instert made to fit each synth like a glove to minimize movement and create channels for cables to run. Issues I ran into are weight I ran out of room quickly with the four synths. A larger pedal board would be really heavy and cumbersome (and not fit a table top well)

I’ve been using this for a while.

It’s still not finished, no patch matrix or lid yet.

This stuff here works great for these kind of projects.

I have giged a machinedrum and octatrack with a moog lowpass and a kaosspad before using this

but it was the older model, it doesnt look like that now.

I have to be honest, tho, IMPO using this type of cases is not the very best idea, they tend to be pretty heavy and sure they can protect your gear, but thing that pedals are designed for a shoe to stomp on it, so the buttons on the pedals and the knobs are different.

Also in this sense, i wouldn’t keep my gear connected inside, mostly because (even if you add support or some foam to absorb the bouncing and hits), the connected cables tend to bend because of the height, UNLESS YOU USE A LAVA CABLE TYPE OF CONNECTIO. Those where the ones I chose STILL I don’t trust keeping my gear inside a box connected.

I stopped using it.

I strongly suggest using either a pelican case that can move around with wheels or using a gig bag with lots of foam, or that gig bag elektron sells.

I thought of getting the case to simply just plug and play, but nah, too risky. Take your time setting up on stage.

You should be very strong now  what is the weight approx ?

And do you have enough height inside the case ? Are the machine blocked by the upper side ?

Hey, so my case order did not work sadly.
So back to the drawing board.

In response to Huno, touring is not my main concern as I dont tour.
I am mostly interested in having a self contained setup with minimum aparent wiring and clutter on my desk.
So the solution has to be self contained.

My setup being in my office, I want it to be mobile so I can stow it or go play on the living room floor or the dining room table without having to patch plenty of cables.

So i have two options, build it (i have access to a crazy woodworking shop)
or find something else.

Being in canada, I foud these guys and find the system pretty cool and relatively afordable

Theres some nice videos on their site explaining the mounting plate options and accessories.

Actually quite interested in this. I’ve done things like this with briefcases for my live vocal rig.

Anyone have any experience making their own smallform patchbays?

I have a bunch of 1/8 TRS jacks at home of good quality. Stuff used by Eurorack manufacturers.

I will mount them on a hammond enclosure

http://www.hammondmfg.com/dwg.htm

Being TRS I will use them as stereo patch points
Elektron gear is balanced but the pedals I use are not so… no need for balanced anyway.
The patch will not be normaled or anything just parallel plugs.
So to link a pedal to something I need a short patchcord
I guess I can even fit a stereo splitter on there also!

Nice thing is I can even plug my iphone in there : )

This thing was kind of inspirational, only I will do it simpler and not have the 1/4 jacks on the sides. Cables will go directly out of the hammond box thru a gromet and directly to the pieces of gear.

Your last picture didn’t post. I’d love to build like a 16I/O 1/4in TRS patchbay in a small box like that.

works now?

Yes and it’s glorious.

Abandoned the case idea,
just building a low cost board finaly.

It’s a start!

I started the patchbay, I already feel attached to it.
